Chelsea + Henry

State Library Victoria // Melbourne CBD

A creative, joyful and completely personal Melbourne CBD wedding at the State Library and Melbourne Town Hall.

How do you juggle organising your dream wedding while making sure every little detail, from the dress and flowers arrangement to the styling and even the sealing wax stamps, feels completely you? For Chelsea, the answer was to pour her creativity and eye for detail into everything, big and small. And boy, did it all come to life. There was so much thought and creativity behind every detail, but somehow the whole day still felt effortless! It was full of laughter, emotion, good people and plenty of moments that simply reflected who they are as a couple and as individuals. As Melbourne wedding videographers, it was such a privilege to document their wedding day and all those little in-between moments that made it uniquely your own.

Chelsea and Henry, what a joyful, emotional and wonderfully creative celebration you shared with each other and with all your favourite people. It was a day you’ll remember forever, and we feel so lucky to have been part of the ride.

Morning Preparations

Henry and his entourage got ready at Chelsea’s mum’s house in the heart of Richmond, just a short distance from Melbourne Town Hall. He was calm and collected, enjoying a beer with his family and friends and taking the time to appreciate the day as it unfolded around him. Meanwhile, Chelsea was surrounded by her closest friends at The Ridges Hotel Melbourne, who made sure there was always a smile on her face. With champagne flowing and glasses raised, the girls’ special bond was on full display. Celebrating the excitement of the wedding day with every minute that passed, it all started to feel a little more real. Chelsea was about to make it official, slowly getting into her beautiful Maria Hardwick gown, ready for what was next to come.

First look

As wedding videographers, the idea of capturing those unhinged, unfiltered emotions in such a special moment, like a first look, is exactly why we love creating. And for Chelsea and Henry, there was one particularly good reason to do one. Henry had mentioned that he wasn’t sure he’d be able to hold himself together if the first time he saw Chelsea was as she walked down the aisle. So, a first look seemed like apretty good solution. And, unsurprisingly, it was emotional. The location was an easy choice: the Town Hall balcony, where Chelsea and Henry were planning shortly after to officiate their commitment to each other. When Henry turned around and saw Chelsea walking towards him, the emotion on both of their faces said everything. There were tears, huge smiles and then an enormous, seemingly endless hug. No guests. No ceremony. No schedule. Just the two of them, seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day.

Ceremony on the Melbourne Town Hall Balcony

High above the city, on the balcony of Melbourne Town Hall, Chelsea and Henry said their “I dos”, surrounded by their nearest and dearest. The space was perfect for Chelsea’s vision: White, dark green tones mixed with deep, sophisticated wine red flowers, complemented by the black tie dress code, the grand high ceilings and the views and sounds of Melbourne CBD below. The ceremony was classic, but never too serious ,with just enough unexpected detail to make it feel completely theirs. Think timeless, with a little wink and a all lot of charm. Their vows were heartfelt, unfiltered and completely their own. There was emotion, laughter and that wonderful feeling you get when two people aren’t trying to make a moment perfect, they’re simply being themselves. And when Chelsea and Henry were officially declared husband and wife, the confetti burst into the air as they made their way down the aisle, stopping for a deep, heartfelt kiss, surrounded by the cheers, laughter and happy tears of their family and friends.

Melbourne CBD wedding portraits

For portraits, we didn’t have to wander far. With Melbourne Town Hall and the State Library just a short walk apart, the city itself became the backdrop to Chelsea and Henry’s wedding story. Walking through Melbourne’s side streets and beautiful heritage buildings complemented the style the couple had envisioned: timeless and modern, with a touch of editorial flair. This is one of our favourite things about filming weddings in Melbourne. One minute, you’re walking through quiet side laneways, and the next, you’re surrounded by grand heritage architecture, busy city streets and parts of the city you’ve never seen before. Chelsea and Henry’s connection was natural, effortless and playful. Their undeniable attraction to each other was evident in the way they could pause and truly be present with one another. A look, a sneaky kiss, a witty joke, or a little dance while walking toward the State Library Victoria, holding hands. When all the pieces come together; the couple, the styling, the locations and those in between moments, something completely personal starts to take shape. It’s about creating a space where couples feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves

A State Library Melbourne Wedding

From the streets of the CBD, Chelsea and Henry made their way to one of Melbourne’s most iconic wedding venues, the State Library of Victoria. Reuniting with their bridal party, they opened a bottle of champagne in the La Trobe Reading Room, raising a well-deserved glass to celebrate the occasion with their closest friends. The heritage architecture and grand interior spaces revealed the beauty of Chelsea’s meticulous styling, brought to life through the amazing work of Black Finn Weddings. From the stationery, including wax-sealed envelopes and a menu designed to savour every detail, to the welcome sign and small vintage lamps lining the long tables, every small detail complemented the character of the room, surrounded by endless shelves filled with words and stories. Chelsea and Henry wandered through unfamiliar stairwells and sections of the library they had never seen before, looking for a little spot to pause and take a quiet moment together. A few stories above the reception, they simply enjoyed being newly married, taking it all in while watching their reception come alive below and their guests enjoy cocktail hour with delicious canapés. Then came their entrance. And, well... Chelsea and Henry didn’t exactly make a quiet one. It was completely them and a brilliant way to kick off the party. Going through “memory lane” of video recordings from some of the special milestones in their lives, it was personal, funny and a beautiful way to bring their story into the evening. The night was full of delightful, colourful moments of funny, witty and heartfelt speeches, great food, and drinks that seemed to keep flowing when glasses went empty. Topped with not one but two bridal dances; both were beautifully choreographed, with a dress change transforming to the beginning of the party and the upbeat vibes that had everyone heading straight for the dance floor. With a sax player joining in and the rest of their guests getting involved, it didn’t take long before the whole room was dancing and it really didn’t stop. Chelsea and Henry were right in the middle of it all, completely in the moment, surrounded by their favourite people.  A little chaotic, a lot of fun, and completely Chelsea and Henry.
